Situated on the western coast in Konkan region, Goa is considered as the smallest Indian state. It is enclosed by, Karnataka on the south and east and Arabian Sea on west and Maharashtra on the north. This state is the first portion of India to be colonized by the Europeans and is also the last one to be liberated. Goa is known to the world as Former Portuguese destination in India. During the past years, it was referred as Gomant or Govapuri or Arpant. On the other hand, to the Arab soldiers it was Sandabur or Sindabur. About 125km i.e. 77 miles of the Goan coastal line is beautifully dotted with the beaches. These are divided in South and North Goa beaches. Today not just these airy beaches but also the rich history that Goa holds has made it a popular travel destination in India.
Goa has an interesting cultural life being a perfect blend of both the east and west. After all there is hardly any place on Earth where you will find both Diwali and Christmas being celebrated with equal zest. Talking of the diet, chouricos (Portuguese sausages) and rice-fish curry: you will get both over here. If you cant imagine seeing women draped in saris and wading through the beaches along with girls in western costume, then it is Goa where you should visit. Goa is rightly said to be a bridge between the west and east. For appreciating Goa, its history and unique culture, you need to visit this place at least once.
